How do I activate a Trailing or Ratchet Stop loss?
Let me first tell you about a Trailing or Ratchet Stop loss
Stop losses by definition are meant to close a position when it reaches a predetermined exit, a stop loss in others words cannot be placed at a level that is higher than the last traded price in the market when you want to sell and vice versa cannot be placed at a
lower level than the last traded price in the market when buying to close a position, in both these instances the order would be placed immediately
Trail – The amount of cents with which the trigger and entry price must follow the last traded price, i.e. the system will test whether the difference between the last traded price in the market and the trigger price is more than the trail, if not, then the trail will do nothing, if yes the trigger price and entry price will be adjusted to trail the last traded price by the amount of cents that the trail specify.
Note once the trail comes into effect, it adheres to the high watermark principle, i.e. your trigger price will be changed upwards when in a stock but never downwards.
